Netflix has finally decided to include a feature that has long been requested among the streaming service's wide user base. After a long wait, iOS users watching on iPad devices would be able to enjoy Picture-in-Picture functions when watching Netflix. With this feature in place, users of the app would be able to continue watching on Netflix even after the app is closed.

Picture-in-Picture has been a feature in Apple's iPads since last year, when the functionality debuted on iOS 9. This functionality, which allowed users to continue streaming video while toggling between apps, has been received very well by Apple's wide user base.

The function has been embraced by a number of Netflix's rivals too, including Hulu, BBC's iPlayer, WatchESPN and other notable streaming services. What is particularly interesting and ironic is the fact that the two leaders in streaming services, YouTube and Netflix, have held out in including the feature, much to users' chagrin.

That is, of course, until now. With Netflix's implementation of Picture-in-Picture support, users would not be able to continue binge-watching on Netflix while updating their Facebook status or responding to an urgent email. All users would need to do is to press the Home button on an iOS device. Doing so would shrink Netflix's video feed to a thumbnail that could be moved around or resized.

Once users are done multitasking, all they need to do is to tap on the Netflix thumbnail. Doing so enlarges the picture once more. Among the newer line of iPads, initiating these functions should be very smooth and effortless.

The Picture-in-Picture functionality might be very useful, but not all iPad users would be able to have access to it. According to Netflix, devices must be running iOS 9.3.2 or higher in order to take advantage of the new feature. Also, Picture-in-Picture support is currently limited to the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 or later.

The updated functions are now available for all Netflix iOS users.
