The next episode of Dragon Ball Super appears to be one for the record books, as the teaser trailer for Episode 49 already showed scenes of Goku and Black Goku preparing to fight each other. With the plot's progression being this fast, fans of Dragon Ball are speculating that there might be another, more important enemy apart from Black Goku in the ongoing Future Trunks arc.

Indeed, during the previous episodes, viewers were able to see how Future Trunks was able to somewhat hold his own against Black Goku's attacks. While Future Trunks was notably outmatched by the dark warrior, he was nonetheless able to survive long enough to escape to the past.

However, in the following episodes, especially when Future Trunks awakens in the past, he immediately attacks Goku, thinking that it was Black Goku in front of him. Unfazed, Goku simply caught Future Trunks' punch without any effort at all. While this scene was understandable since Future Trunks was still recovering from injuries at the time, it nonetheless showed just how large the gap is between Goku and the young Saiyan's power.

Thus, with the way each of the characters handled Future Trunks' attacks, many fans are speculating that Black Goku might not be as strong as Goku or Vegeta. After all, Goku and Vegeta have been training with no less than Whis; thus, they are currently the most powerful Z fighters to date.

With their current level of power, there is a pretty good chance that Black Goku would not be able to best both Vegeta or Goku in single combat. With this said, is there a possibility that there is another, more sinister enemy behind Black Goku? From what series creator Akira Toriyama has stated so far, this does not seem to be the case. If any, Black Goku has been built up very well as a formidable enemy. However, faced with the walls of power that are Vegeta and Goku, the strength of Black Goku might end up tame.

Then again, Dragon Ball Super seems to be heading in a direction that is a bit more unorthodox than usual. Thus, Episode 49 might end with something definitely unexpected.
