Lauri Peterson is "inconsolable" following her son Josh Waring's recent arrest.

Earlier this month, following an incident in Santa Ana, Calif., Waring was arrested and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a man in the torso. Understandably, the former Real Housewives of Orange County star is devastated.

“Lauri is inconsolable!” a source told Radar Online at the end of last week. “She is absolutely mortified at what is going on right now."

After appearing on The Real Housewives of Orange County season four, Peterson quit the series in order to take care of her troubled son who, at the time, was battling an addiction to heroin. However, despite Peterson's efforts to save her son, his troubles continued and prior to his latest arrest, he faced a number of legal issues, which ultimately led his mother to take custody of his child.

“Lauri does not know what to say because what Josh did was so disturbing that there is really nothing she can say right now," the source explained. “Her friends are trying to console her and be there for her but she is just so ashamed of what is going on with Josh... They used to be so close and he has just turned into a complete monster!”

Although Waring was scheduled to be arraigned at the end of last week following his arrest on Monday, the hearing was postponed due to Waring's refusal to leave his cell.

Following news of Waring's arrest, Peterson's former co-star and friend, Vicki Gunvalson, spoke out.

“I reached out to Lauri this morning when I heard the news, and let her know I am here for her if she needs anything,” Gunvalson told Radar Online last Tuesday. “As a mother myself, I can’t imagine how difficult this is for her."

Waring has not yet commented on her son's incarceration and pending charges.
