Russell Wilson has ignored his critics who say he is getting too close to his wife Ciara and Future’s son, baby Future. Instead, he has opened up about seeing Ciara walk down the aisle, and being a stepfather to the two-year-old.

People magazine caught up with Wilson at the Kids’ Choice Sports Awards rehearsal Monday. Wilson, who is serving as co-host for the event for the second year in a row, opened up about his surprise wedding with Ciara.

“I’ll tell you, the best part of the wedding was watching her walk down the aisle. I had so many [thoughts], but to see her gracefully walk down the aisle in that long train… and to realize I was going to spend the rest of my life with her gives me chills.”

He added that their love began when he first saw her.

“Ever since the first day I met her, she’s always been, honestly, my best friend. We’ve been so close.”

As for also getting close with baby Future, Wilson has gotten lots of criticism; especially since a video of the child calling him “Papa Wilson” before giving him a kiss surfaced on the Internet and went viral earlier this week.

“I think ultimately one thing I can say about being a step-dad andy any person that’s a parent—but especially when you come into a new situation—the key is loving the child as your own,” he said. “That’s the biggest thing.”

But he’s also preparing to have more children with the singer turned model.

“I want to have a bunch of kids…Me and Ci do. I think that ever since the first day I ever met Ciara and little man, too, it’s been really cool and really special.”

He also commended Ciara for being a “great mom.”
