Lady Gaga's new single "Perfect Illusion" will be released in September, but will she be a surprise performer at the VMAs?

Sunday night is the MTV VMAs, which has traditionally featured shocking moments and performances. It's where Gaga fully showed her capabilities as a performer in 2009, with an unequivocally bold and innovative performance of her song "Paparazzi".

So will she surprise again at this year's VMAs? Unfortunately, it sounds like Gaga will not be at the annual ceremony this year. A new report from Us Weekly says that Gaga "is not performing or presenting" at the VMAs, according to an insider.

Of course, it's always possible that Gaga's performance might be kept under wraps, but in all likelihood, Little Monsters will probably have to wait until September to hear "Perfect Illusion".

There's been a lot of hype surrounding "Perfect Illusion", the lead single for Gaga's fifth studio album. iHeartRadio wrote a review of "Perfect Illusion", describing it as finding a "sweet space in Mother Monster's catalogue alongside some of her best dance floor anthems."

"The song is about modern ecstasy," Gaga said. "We found our sweet, simple, ragey way of saying it," She added, "I get this sick adrenaline rush every time I hear it."

Gaga is set to release her fifth studio album, colloquially referred to as "LG5", by the end of 2016, though a specific release date is not yet known.

As for who will be performing at this year's VMAs, the lineup includes Rihanna, Britney Spears feat. G-Eazy, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, Future, Nick Jonas and Ty Dolla $ign and The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey. It is also rumored that Beyonce will be performing some type of tribute to Prince.
