Gaming laptops have always been a particularly compelling niche. They are usually large and rather unwieldy, trading portability for raw power and capabilities. Recently, Acer has unveiled the Predator 21 X, the company's halo product in the world of premium gaming laptops.

Predator 21 X Frame - Massive But Still Practical

The Predator 21 X is huge. Not in the way that 17-inch Alienware laptops are huge. The predator 21 X dwarfs those gaming machines, with its 21-inch curved display. The first of its kind in the world, the Predator 21 X's curved display promises a viewing experience unlike anything seen on a portable before.

The behemoth of a laptop is no joke when it comes to power consumption. Most probably shipping with the world's biggest power brick, the Predator 21 X has two power supplies in order to keep it running. The massive laptop also comes with 5 powerful fans to keep it cool. All this is packed into a metal and plastic frame that weighs about 17 pounds.

While the Predator 21 X is by no means a portable machine, the 17-pound gaming laptop is still far more wieldy than a full-fledged desktop computer. Thus, hardcore gamers who are fond of going to LAN parties need not worry about transporting their entire desktop setups with them.

Predator 21 X Specs - One word: Ridiculous

The gaming hardware scene has always been a matter of releasing the best to the market. IN recent years, the specs of top-tier gaming laptops have gotten very extreme, with some coming close, if not exceeding, the performance of high-end gaming desktops. All of these machines, however, are outgunned by the Predator 21 X.

The Predator 21 X features an Intel i7 Kaby Lake processor, coupled with as much as 64GB of RAM and up to 4 SSDs. Powering the graphical capabilities of the massive laptop are two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs, which is almost ridiculous in its capabilities. Virtual Reality games, for one, are perfectly run by one NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 card. With two of these high-end cards in the Predator 21 X, the laptop becomes practically future proof.

Why the Predator 21 X Makes Sense (In All its Ridiculous, Overpowered Glory)

Numerous reviewers have so far mocked the Predator 21 X for being far too big and heavy, with many taking issue in the fact that it is just so darn big. Its specs have also been a point for its skeptics, with many stating that the laptop's specs have crossed the line into being straight-up overkill.

What many are not seeing, however, is the fact that the Predator 21 X is not a gaming laptop for the masses. If any, it is a halo product, an effort from Acer to show the computing world just how far gaming laptops have gone. With a price that would probably go north of $6,000, the predator is as expensive as the most costly desktop setups. Then again, that seems to be the main purpose of the device.

In all its overkill, overpowered, overweight glory, the Predator 21 X shines, showing the computing world what a true-born gaming laptop could be when it is manufactured without any limits.
