While Carey Mulligan may not have had a crush on Leonardo DiCaprio, The Great Gatsby actress recently found out her kiss with the star helped her land her most recent role.

"That's what I've heard, but only in the last couple of days," the 27-year-old Mulligan said, according to Access Hollywood. The British star beat out the likes of Blake Lively and Natalie Portman for the chance to play Daisy Buchanan opposite DiCaprio.

Auditions for the Baz Luhrmann directed adaptation of the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel had Mulligan's nerves on edge.

'I was terrified of reading with him, but it said in the script that Daisy kisses Gatsby so I asked if I should and [director] Baz [Luhrmann] said yes, so I kissed him," Mulligan admits of the first time she worked with the Titanic star, according to Contactmusic.

While many of Mulligan's high school friends joined the ranks of teenage girls swooning over DiCaprio, the actress, currently married to Mumford & Sons front man Marcus Mumford, had a different heartthrob.

"Well, he wasn't my pin-up, but he was for a lot of my girlfriends," Mulligan said, according to Metro.  "Michael Schumacher [was my pin-up]. I used to watch Formula 1 with my dad when I was little.''

However, the Shame star was enamored by the 39-year-old actors talent.

"When I did the audition with Leo in New York I walked away grinning," Mulligan stated, according to Metro. "Just the idea that if I never got any further, I had just spent an hour and a half acting with Leonardo DiCaprio."

The Great Gatsby opens May 10.
