Barry Allen's forensic lab is no longer his own. The Flash will give the Scarlett Speedster another boss at the CCPD in season 3, and the arrival of Tom Felton's Julian Dorn will throw our hero's professional life into disarray.

For the Flash, his day job functions like a well-oiled machine. The particle accelerator explosion has allowed Barry (Grant Gustin) to zip through his cases at lightning speed, allowing him the opportunity to save the city at a moments notice. Now that Dorn has entered the mix, however, there will be someone to cast a suspicious eye over Allen's coming and goings.

"Season threes are typically when you add that character that comes in to shake things up, just in the same way we added Brandon Routh to Arrow in season 3," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly. "Having Tom join the show and adding his energy, his delivery, and his performance to our very tightly knit cast is definitely meant to help shake things up."

The Flashpoint universe will come and go in a matter of episodes, but tampering with the timeline will have permanent effects on Barry's Earth-1 reality. Where once Dorn didn't exist, Felton's character will spring to life, as familiar with Barry as anyone outside STAR Labs.

"He's a forensic expert, so he treads on the toes of much of what Barry is good at. Hence they have a slightly abrasive relationship at first," Felton told Sci-Fi Now. "He's not familiar with me, but I'm familiar with him, so it's an odd dynamic. It seems like a love/hate thing at first."

Will this fraught dynamic give rise to a new villain? The Internet is rife with speculation regarding Dorn's backstory, but, as per usual, The Flash cast is playing their cards close to the vest.

Find out what Dorn is really up to when The Flash returns to The CW on Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. ET.
