Ali Lohan, Model Wants to Prove Herself as More than Lindsay's Sister [VIDEO]

Ali Lohan has to prove herself as a model and more than just the younger sister of Lindsay.

The younger Lohan opened up to Women's Wear Daily about her career as a model. The 19-year old said she did not need her older sister to make a name for herself. She wanted to be known as her own person.

"I don't need to ride on any coattails," Lohan said. "I definitely have to prove myself -- just showing up on time and doing everything that you're supposed to do."

Lohan said she wanted to use her fame for more than just personal gain. She saw herself as a champion for those who did not have much. She wanted to serve on their behalf and do charity work.

"I want to make the most out of the word 'fame.' I want to do good things with my fame, or whatever it is," she said.

Lohan signed a multiyear contract with the top-tier agency NEXT Model Management in August 2011. She was billed as 'Aliana T. Lohan, Model' on her Twitter account. NEXT director Alexis Borges declared that Lohan would become a fashion icon.

"One that fashion fans will follow not because of her famous last name, but because of the beautiful images and fashion trends she is helping create," Borges said.

Lohan launched her modeling career by appearing in ads for her older sister. As a 16 year old, she modeled clothing from Lindsay's 6126 by Lindsay Lohan spring 2011 collection. Last summer, she spent a few months modeling in Korea.

"Everything was amazing. The shoots, the clothes, the makeup, the hair - it just blew my mind," she said.

These days, Lohan is signed with Wilhelmina Models in New York. She inked her new deal last week and was excited about what was to come. She felt comfortable in front of the camera and all the ways she could express herself. The clothes were also an added bonus.

"I just love that you can express yourself through a photograph. It just captures every moment," Lohan said.

Even though Lohan does not want to be known as only Lindsay's sister, she felt that the Mean Girls actress was a great source of support. She said that the two of them were very close and spoke often. Lindsay has also given her advice.

"She just says the main thing is to do your best and to do what you love," Lohan said.
