Fans of Secrets and Lies waited well over a year to see the second season of the hit show after ABC continually pushed it off their schedule until Fall 2016, but now that move could have been the very thing that is reportedly hurting the show, and putting it at risk for cancellation after the current season ends.

According to TV By The Numbers, the show saw its lowest ratings ever during its most recent episode, posting just a 0.88 overall, on a night where the show also competed against the season seven premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC. However, that show won't be to blame for Secrets and Lies being canceled, if that is what happened.

According to the website, the show had it's highest ratings ever when it aired its first season finale back in 2015, and also premiered well enough, but has seen numbers that are far less impressive throughout the second season run. And while the show does follow a new case with a completely different cast, the main reason the site said would be to blame is how long ABC sat on the show's second season.

According to the site, it premiered exactly 16 months and 22 days after the season one finale, an extremely long break for a network to give to a show that was a reliable mid-season performer, or to give to a show that wasn't expected to be canceled after the new season aired. There had been no prior indication that the show would be canceled after it's second season, but now, after the extended break, it is more possible that ABC could pull the series after season two wraps up in the next few months.

Overall, the series started at 4.06 million viewers during its season 2 premiere, and did experience a small drop for the Oct. 2 and Oct. 16 episodes, before hitting the low 3.12 million this past weekend.

By comparison, season one saw an opener of 6.06 million viewers, with a slight drop throughout the season, before hitting the series high for the season 1 finale of 6.53 million.
