Indie artist Father John Misty did not seem to take kindly to one of the contestants on NBC's The Voice singing his song.

The Voice contestant Aaron Gibson sang Father John Misty's song, "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings", during Monday night's show and the original artist clearly didn't care for it. The musician took to Facebook, posted a link to the performance and added the caption "why God why".

This post was deleted but was captured by Pitchfork before he took it down. Since deleting the post, Father John Misty has made three new posts in relation to Gibson's performance and while more diplomatic in nature, there was some clear sarcasm in his tone, as he related the controversy to the U.S. election:

Paul Mirkovich, music director on The Voice, commented on one of these posts, suggesting that FJM had an air of "elitism" in his comments.

"The unbelievable elitism of those that are way to [sic] cool always amazes me," Mirkovich wrote. "We played one of your songs on our show. About 15 million people saw it heard it and perhaps many of them previously unaware of your music then decided to look you up. The most you should have commented if you could not say anything nice was a polite 'thank you'. That is what my mom taught me anyways. We have played over 6000 songs on the show and usually get compliments from the artists we cover and even last night got thank you and good job from Greg Allman . He is a gentleman with a very long career. Sorry we did not live up to your high standards. If we ever play one of your songs again perhaps I could call you for your input. I am sure it would be very educational."

Neither Gibson nor his coach, Miley Cyrus, have responded to Father John Misty's comments. Gibson was voted through to the Top 11 Tuesday night and will be performing again next Monday.

The Voice airs Monday and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
