Cyanogen Inc. already confirmed that the company will be shutting down all its services. But then, a new Mod lineage is expected to obtain CyanogenMod's Source Code.

According to International Business Times, Cyanogen Inc. has confirmed that the company will cease its operation. CyanogenMod also stated on Saturday that with the Cyanogen shut down the CyanogenMod community had "lost its voice."

The CyanogenMod team, however, is doing a lot of efforts to reclaim the CyanogenMod source code but then all is not lost. The team is creating a Lineage open source OS, which will utilize the CyanogenMod source code. Based on some talks, CyanogenMod will go back to the community of developers where it patented.

Moreover, there is a new site that has come up for the Lineage OS, which stated that "LineageOS will be the extension of what CyanogenMod was. To quote Andy Rubin, this is the definition of open. A company pulling their support out of an open source project does not mean it has to die."

Furthermore, University Herald reported that Cyanogen has fired 30 of the company's staffs after Steve Kondik has resigned. The master of Cyanogen has put on the liabilities to CEO Kirt McMaster for the company's failure. As of this moment, the future for CyanogenMod and the devices that use the OS is ambiguous.

Meanwhile, the devices that will be affected by CyanogenMod shut down. The devices running Cyanogen OS such as Lenovo ZUK Z1 and OnePlus One will no longer receive any OS update from Cyanogen as the death of this firmware means no more development on the software. Nevertheless, the open source ROM will still continue to be offered for community developers.

It can be remembered that Cyanogen Inc. has promoted CyanogenMod which was the most-used custom ROM for three years. It even aimed to take on Google's Android by appealing its build as a 'better version of Android' due to the OS mods. The death of CyanogenMod declaration might be the birth of a new mod called Lineage.
