Huawei has been in the news from the past some time for a mixed number of reasons like the expected launch of rumored Huawei P10 at the MWC 2017 or the arrest of its executives for leaking confidential information to LeEco. Now a new development has taken place and suggests that the company has a mysterious Huawei device codenamed MYA-L03, which has been spotted on Geekbench.  There is even an FCC filing dated December 28 of last year, which managed to slip under the radar during the Christmas break.

The MYA-L03 is said to be a budget friendly smartphone coming from the company and it has also cleared the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification on Dec. 28, 2016. The date is listed on a FCC document, which is available for screening on the FCC website. Various reports also suggest that the mysterious device could be named "Huawei Maya."

According to the Geekbench listing, the Huawei MYA-L03 a.k.a Huawei Maya is said to come pre-loaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the device will be powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737T CPU clocking at 1.44 GHZ. The Huawei Maya smartphone may house 2 GB of RAM and has a single-core-score of 658 and a multi-core-score of 1815, as per the listing.

On the other hand, The FCC filing  discloses a similar model under the name MYA-L23. The listed Huawei Maya model is a dual-SIM smartphone whereas the Huawei device spotted on Geekbench will house only a single SIM.

The Huawei Maya with the code name MYA-L23 is speculated to have 2920 mAh battery, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and 4G/LTE (bands 2, 4, 5, and 7) connectivity. The FCC certification also cleared that the smartphone will be coming packed with the Bluetooth option.

As per the picture in FCC filing, Huawei Maya may come with a replaceable back cover option, with the consideration of growing demand of changeable colourful back plates. A closer look at the picture also reveals microSD card slot and a SIM slot in the device. The rear camera is located on the upper part with the LED flash on its left.

Based on this photo, we can assume the device in question will feature swappable backplates. Huawei Maya will be much along the lines of the how the original Moto G's was designed. Upon closer inspection, we can also see an expandable memory slot in the device.

According to GSM Arena, Huawei might be trying to enter the ultra-affordable budget friendly smartphones market in the U.S. Perhaps we could expect a smartphone like this one to run for $100-$150. Huawei is going to hold a press event on Feb. 26 and it remains to be seen if the mysterious Huawei Maya will be introduced at the upcoming event. Since the smartphone has been given the green signal by the FCC, the handset will make its way to the U.S. soon.
