Amanda Bynes’ parents are trying to gain conservatorship over their troubled actress daughter, but they are facing legal obstacles in their efforts to do so.

One of these obstacles include their daughter being in New York.

“Amanda’s parents have been told it’s much harder for them to get guardianship of their adult daughter in New York than if they were to have the proceedings take place in California,” said sources, according to a Radar Online report Friday. “Under New York law, Amanda could have the option of having a jury of her peers decide if she was in need of having her parents take control of her life. In the California courts, a judge signs off on the conservatorship.”

Bynes' parents are concerned about having a public jury decide whether the Easy A star is not able to take care of herself.

According to the New York state Mental Hygiene Law, Article 81, a family member can file to be appointed as the guardian, and the person in need of it, called an “Alleged Incapacitated Person,” or AIG meets with a court evaluator. While this decision is pending, the judge can assign a temporary status to a guardian who is given authority over the person’s needs and finances.

Her parents’ main concern, Radar Online reported, is finding Bynes a mental health professional to properly diagnose and treat the Hollywood star.

According to a previous report, Bynes’ family thinks the star may be suffering from schizophrenia.
