Will Arnett has found it difficult to get over his separation from fellow comedian Amy Poehler.

The comedy couple shocked many when they announced that they would be separating after nine years together in September 2012.

Arnett opened up about the separation in the May issue of Details magazine.

"Life is challenging," the actor admitted.

He has taken to exercise to cope.

"If going to the gym obsessively for eight, nine months was my way of dealing, then let that be my worst problem," he said.

"All people have been doing since the dawn of time is trying to figure out how to live this life and be happy, " Arnett explained, "I'm no different. I'm 43, and I've found my happiness -- which is my kids."

The actor noted that he is "not officially dating," explaining that he's unaware of how to get back into that scene again.

"Yeah, I don't know what you do. Do you put out an announcement in the trades? ''I'M DATING! It all seems very scary to me, to be honest. So I'm kind of keeping pretty close counsel right now," he said.

Most recently, the actor reprised his role as Gob Bluth in Netflix's revival of the cult sitcom Arrested Development. Fox canceled the show in 2006 after three seasons on the air, but Netflix brought it back for streaming on Sunday, May 26.

Poehler was a guest star on Arrested Development in the series' first two seasons, playing Gob's wife. An SNL veteran, the actress is currently the star of NBC's Parks and Recreation, which is now entering its sixth season.

Arnett has tried his hand at different sitcoms since 2006, including 2011's Up All Night with co-star Christina Applegate and 2010's Running Wilde co-starring Keri Russell. Both shows were cancelled.

Arnett will be starring in the new CBS multi-camera sitcom The Millers in the fall. The actor plays a recently divorced man whose mother (Margo Martindale) comes to live with him.

The show will be airing this fall at 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays on CBS.
