The first trailer for the action-packed thriller Getaway, starring Selena Gomez and Ethan Hawke, premiered on Wednesday.

In Getaway, Hawke plays a former racecar driver who is forced to obey the commands of a man who has kidnapped his wife. He eventually runs into Gomez's character, who carries a gun. His wife's kidnapper tells him to kill Gomez, but Hawke desperately explains that he's not a killer, and Gomez is soon forced to go along for the ride with Hawke.

The scenes that follow involve plenty of guns, car chases and explosions. The film also stars Jon Voight, Rebecca Budig and Bruce Payne.

After appearing earlier this year in the racy Spring Breakers, Gomez is continuing to delve into more mature projects like Getaway. The actress/singer is increasingly breaking away from her Disney Channel roots, with her family-friendly sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place ending with a special in March.

Gomez took in a lot during the filming of Getaway, describing it as an "incredible" experience.

"He [Hawke] just would tell me stories about the previous projects that he's been a part of," she said in an interview with Collider, "I remember writing down so many notes and things that he would say because he was really supportive and obviously amazingly talented. It was really fun."

Gomez has had a busy year. In addition to this summer blockbuster, she has a new album coming out on July 23 called Stars Dance.

The Come and Get It singer will begin her world tour on August 14 to promote Stars Dance.

Hawke has also had a busy year, starring in the upcoming horror film The Purge, the indie drama Before Midnight in addition to Getaway.  The versatile actor was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role in Training Day.

Getaway will be released in theaters on August 30.
