Russell Brand spoke about his marriage and divorce to Katy Perry in the July/August issue of British Esquire.

The comic married the Wide Awake singer on October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony, near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan, India. It was the same location where he proposed. The union did not last and he filed for divorce in December of 2011. Their divorce was finalized in July 2012 and the comic insisted that cheating was not the reason why he and the pop star failed in their relationship.

Brand was known to be a womanizer before he married the singer and he acknowledged his addiction to sex. However, he said that he was faithful to Perry.

"I've given over too much of my life to its pursuit," he said. "When I'm in a relationship I'm diligently monogamous and stick to the principles agreed on within that relationship. You've got to, I think. But it's going to be hard if I go into a monogamous relationship.".

Brand said he has always lived a life of freedom and that marriage was a change for him. Being monogamous was a change that he liked and loved at the time. He called his ex-wife "a lovely beautiful person" but said marriage is difficult all around.

"It's just hard, isn't it?" he added. "She's got a lot of options, I've got a lot of options, so you've got to really, really want it."

Brand admitted that fame also factored into the decision for him and Perry to end their 14-month marriage. He said there was pressure to make the other person just as important in the relationship, but the 38-year-old could see himself married again.

"Really, I'd like to be married. I'm just not transmitting that frequency of 'Soulmate! Soulmate!' I'm transmitting the frequency of 'Mmm!'," he said.
