Angelina Jolie's mother, Marcheline Bertrand, influenced her parenting style and according to the acclaimed actress, she would have been an amazing grandmother to her six children.

In an interview with Elle France, the 42-year-old actress opened up about her mother's role in her life and discussed how she would have been as a grandmother to 15-year-old Maddox, 13-year-old Pax, 12-year-old Zahara, 11-year-old Shiloh and eight-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

"She would have thrived as a grandmother," Jolie said, according to People magazine. "I know how much she would have contributed to their lives and I am sad they will miss out on that. I would give anything for her to be with me at this time. I've needed her. I talk to her often in my mind and try to think what she might say and how she might guide me."

Bertrand passed away in 2007 after a battle with cancer.

Jolie went on to reveal that having a family has been a great gift, but a big responsibility.

"It means doing everything that you can to live by your values and try to be an example to your children," she said. "I try to lead by example, being conscious of others and being responsible. And to help them have a broader view of the world, but really the only way I know to raise them is to really listen. It's perhaps the most important thing any parent can do. They are resilient children but they are children, and as much as they need help to understand the hard truths in life they also need what we all need-protection and love."

Jolie is currently acting as a single parent to her six children as she and her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, continue to work out the details of their impending split and custody battle.
