A Florida judge sentenced Chad Johnson to 30 days in jail on Monday after she got mad at the former NFL star for reportedly not taking the proceedings seriously.

Judge Kathleen McHugh was annoyed that Johnson slapped the behind of his attorney, Adam Swickle, when the former athlete appearing before the court for a probation hearing regarding his domestic abuse case.

Johnson was arrested in August 2012 for domestic abuse against Evelyn Lozada, whom he had married in July of that year. According to police records, he head butted his then-wife after she found a box of condoms in his car. The former Basketball Wives star was treated at the hospital for cuts to her forehead but later released. A warrant for his arrest was issued in May because of failure to comply with his sentence for the incident, which included meeting with a parole officer.

The judge on Monday said she did not believe that Johnson grasped the severity of the incident and its reprecautions. McHugh told Johnson, "I don't know that you're taking this whole thing seriously. I just saw you slap your attorney on the backside. Is there something funny about this?"

McHugh said that as a result, she would not accept the plea agreement that had been agreed upon between Johnson and the prosecution. The Broward County Circuit judge added an additional three months of probation because Johnson failed to meet with his probation officer during three previous months.

"The whole courtroom was laughing. I'm not going to accept these plea negotiations. This isn't a joke," McHugh said.

Johnson apologized to the judge for his behavior. The 35-year-old said that he meant no disrespect with his actions, that were interpreted as a form of celebration when he believed that his plea deal had been accepted.

"This is your courtroom. I have no intent to make this a joke. It's not funny," Johnson said. "My life is in a shambles right now and I try my best to laugh and keep a smile on my face."

The judge was not moved. She said that Johnson repeatedly showed disrespect for the court. McHugh called out Johnson, saying, "It's not the first time he's behaved that way in my courtroom."

He was promptly handcuffed and led away. Johnson was later able to post a message on Twitter for his followers:  "Love me through the good and the bad because I'm gone love you regardless... See you in 30.."
