Producers behind Princess Diana's biopicture released the film's frst trailer on Wednesday, which stars Naomi Watts in the lead role.

The trailer for Diana does not show Watts' face until the halfway point, choosing instead to focus on the public fascination with late royal. The trailer flashes such text as "An icon. Adored by millions. The most famous woman in the world," intercut between shots of Diana shaking hands as cameras flash around her.

While "who became the people's princess" flashes across the screen, the trailer then launches into her humanitarian work, which is soon replaced by the tabloids and paparazzi that Diana came to know on a regular basis. There are many shots of her looking frustrated by all of the obsessive attention she's receiving.

The trailer ends with a simple "The legend is never the whole story," and then an extreme close-up of her world-weary eyes.

Diana is directed by Olivier Hirschbiegel, who also directed the 2004 Hilter biopic Downfall. The movie chronicles the last two years of Diana's life, including her support of the campaign against landmines and her relationship with Dr. Hasnat Khan (played by Lost's Naveen Andrews).

Friends described her relationship with Dr. Khan as very close, saying he was "the love of her life."  The pair started their relationship in 1995, two years before Diana's death.

Watts was not the original actress to be cast as Diana for this film. Jessica Chastain was originally supposed to play Diana but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.  Watts, who arguably resembles Diana more, signed on in February 2012. The film was called Caught in Flight at the time before changing to the simpler Diana.

Diana will be released in theaters in the United Kingdom on Sept. 20 but there is not a set release date for the film in the United States.  American distributor eOne said that they will be releasing it in the U.S. in time for awards season, which is November/December.
