Is the demise of Wolverine near?

A new international trailer which delves deeper into what fans can expect from the latest installment, was released on Thursday.

While an initial trailer was released in May, the second one reveals why Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, ends up in Japan. Yashida invites Wolverine, also known as Logan, to the country in order to get his help. Once saved by Wolverine, Yashida offers to give him a gift he believes the mutant desires.

"I wanted to offer you something no one else can," are Yashida's words as he lies on his death bed. "You have struggled long enough. I can end your eternity. Make you mortal."

Wolverine, however, seems reluctant to accept Yashida's offer. He then encounters a past and vicious enemy named Viper. The foe attempts to strip the mutant of all he has. After she attacks him he begins to lose his rapid healing abilities.

Another scene in the trailer shows that Yukio, a female ninja, tells Wolverine she can see the future. She continues to tell Wolverine that she sees his death approaching.

In an interview with Slashfilm in May, Jackman spoke about the complexities of the movie and his role as Wolverine.

"Certainly, through Wolverine's eyes, it's really foreign and you don't know who's what. You don't really know who's good or bad. You don't really know what's at play. All we know is there's a lot of confusing, intricate elements," he said.

The action film, directed by James Mangold, also stars Famke Janssen as the most powerful X-Men Jean Grey, Hal Yamanouchi as Yashida, Svetlana Khodchenkova as Viper and Rila Fukushima as Yukio.

The Wolverine is the followup to 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Fans can see the character battle for his life when the film comes to U.S. theaters on July 26.
