Why Didn't Justin Bieber Join Selena Gomez At The 2017 American Music Awards?

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber may be going strong at the moment but are they ready to take their relationship to the red carpet?

As fans awaited Gomez's performance of "Wolves" at last night's American Music Awards, many wondered if the 25-year-old singer would be joined by her musician boyfriend, Bieber, 23, who was up for a number of awards at the show.

Shortly before the event took place, a source explained why the couple likely opted against walking the AMA red carpet together.

“People are holding their breath to see what Selena will do as far as the AMAs. She’s saying she and Justin aren’t going to do any red carpets together together, but she’s very unpredictable at the moment,” a member of Gomez's glam squad told Hollywood Life on Nov. 18.

Gomez and Bieber have been parading their love for each other around Los Angeles in the weeks since the time Bieber was caught at her home in late October. So, it wouldn't be completely surprising to see the couple walk the red carpet together.

That said, Gomez and Bieber may opt against a red carpet appearance and choose to allow Gomez to focus on her performance without a media circus following her every move and Bieber's.

“The thing is, Selena’s so swept up in this romance, she’s having a lot of trouble keeping it private," the source continued. "She’s saying that’s what they want, but then the next thing she’s kissing him in front of tons of people during his hockey game. It’s very hard to know what she’ll do.”

The report comes just days after another insider spoke to Hollywood Life, revealing that Justin Bieber had been a big support for Gomez as she prepared for her first performance in over a year. As the source explained, Gomez had been rehearsing for Sunday's show like crazy and, at the same time, she had been attempting to fight back against the nervousness she was facing.

Meanwhile, Bieber had been telling her how amazing she is and pumping her up for the event. According to the report, Bieber hates seeing his on-again, off-againgirlfriend stress out. So, as she reportedly neglects her own needs as she continues to attend rehearsal after rehearsal, he has been incredibly thoughtful and considerate. In fact, he recently ordered a meal for Selena Gomez from her favorite deli in Beverly Hills.
