Jon Watts is confirmed to direct the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. The announcement came from Kevin Feige, chief of Marvel Studios.

Watts has already been linked to the sequel following the success of the web-slinging superhero film starring Tom Holland. However, it took a couple of months for Marvel Studios to make an official announcement on who will direct the upcoming film.

Kevin Feige Announces Jon Watts Directorial Stint

In July, the director was asked whether or not he will helm the sequel, and he refused to give a direct answer. Instead, Watts said that he wants to focus on one movie at a time.

Holland, however, said during the same interview that Watts will return for the sequel because there will be no Spider-Man: Homecoming without the director.

"Watts is coming back for the next one. We can't do another Spider-Man movie without Jon Watts," said Holland.

The filming for Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to begin in June in Atlanta and will end sometime in the fall or winter of 2018. Other details about the film are still being kept under wraps, but there are speculations that it will be the first installment of the MCU's Phase Four.

Marvel Studios Other Projects

The updated filming schedule for Marvel Studios coincides with its other projects with Sony Pictures. Tom Hardy will headline Venom and he as well as the cast and crew will wrap up filming in February.

Silver & Black is scheduled to kick off filming after Venom wraps up production. Venom will premiere on Oct. 5, 2018, while Silver & Black will be released on Feb. 8, 2019.

Spider-Man: Homecoming lead star, Holland, is also expected to appear in the next two Avengers movies. Avengers: Infinity War is already filming. The project is slated for release sometime in April.

"That's five movies we're working on, two that have been made already and three more that go into the future and yet all anyone wants to know is what's next," said Feige.

Sony Pictures Animation Releases Teaser

Meanwhile, following Feige's announcement, Sony Pictures Animation also unveiled the teaser for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse at Brazil Comic-Con.

The over one-minute clip centers on Miles Morales, a Brooklyn native who assumes the role of Spider-Man. Shameik Moore voices Miles in the animated feature that is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 14, 2018. Other actors who lent their voice for the film include Liev Schreiber, Mahershala Ali and Bryan Tyree Henry.
