An NBA great spoke on Tristan Thompson’s cheating scandal amid his relationship with Khloe Kardashian. Thompson was caught cheating while she was pregnant.

Kareem Isn't Here For The Stereotypes

While Thompson's dad had a different approach, Kareem Abdul-Jabar had lots to say about Thompson’s scandal that included him being caught on tape kissing other women amid Kardashian’s pregnancy. While Thompson and Kardashian welcomed their first child, daughter True Thompson, together earlier this month, the fallout against Thompson from the footage that went viral is still going strong.

Jabar provided a different perspective and shut down opinions that Kardashian should have known about Tristan’s extracurricular activities simply because he’s a professional athlete. He went off of the notion that suggests all athletes are unfaithful to their significant others.

“The implication is that such sleazy behavior should be expected because, after all, he plays professional sports for a living,” wrote Jabar in an essay for Cosmopolitan. “Grown men playing boys’ games can’t be trusted to act like responsible adults. Especially when they’re celebrities because of it.”

Is It The Same As Categorizing Other Groups?

He went on to say that while this is a common theme for professional athletes, it is certainly not a true one. He added that it would be just as wrong for people to say Kardashian should have expected Thompson to cheat because he’s African-American. He continued and said it would also be the same type of disrespect for people to stereotype and categorize women, the LGBTQ community, immigrants, Jews, Muslims, and “dumb blonds.”

For Kardashian’s specific situation, Jabar made it clear he’s aware this isn’t the first time Kardashian has been humiliated by a cheating scandal amid her relationship with a professional athlete. He was referring to Kardashian’s ex-husband, Lamar Odom, who was not only blasted for his infidelity during his marriage to Kardashian but also slammed for his struggle with drug addiction.

Cheers To The Good Guys

He went on to say that while wealth and celebrity status give athletes more opportunities to cheat than the average person, that doesn’t mean all of them give in to it.

“The problem is that every time we see articulate, courageous, and committed athletes – like LeBron James, Colin Kaepernick, Etan Thomas, Michael Bennett, Steph Curry, and others – a juicy bit of salacious gossip drowns out these important voices…”

He said the negative news that is publicized more than the positive only gives life to the stereotypical life of a professional athlete.
