Girls season 3 is sure to bring some unexpected surprises with a road trip in the works, guest stars and more character troubles.

The popular show will feature a bunch of new guest stars. Natalie Morales from Parks and Recreation, for one, has booked a guest spot, according to TVLine. She will drop by as a "sweet twenty-something who surrounds herself with artists and has a desire to save the world."

Deadline also reported that Amir Arison (Zero Hour) has landed an arc and will play Kevin, a co-worker of Hannah's (Lena Dunham).

Other guest stars will include Jennifer Westfeldt (Friends With Kids), Michael Zegen (Boardwalk Empire), Gaby Hoffmann, Richard E. Grant and Melonie Diaz.

Without revealing too many details, director Lena Dunham told The New York Times in mid-July her approach to the show's next season.

"We're approaching it as we always approach it. We never try to approach it like, 'Oh, hey, last year we scandalized a few people, let's try to do that again,'" Dunham said. "We write what feels exciting to us, and if it makes people horrifically angry and/or confused, then that's a side effect."

A photo of the cast posted last month on Unreality TV showed Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke, Lena Dunham and Alison Williams sitting by the bay. This revealed the return of Jessa (Jemima Kirke) and her possible reconciliation with Hannah. It also might mean the girls are taking a road trip, which may or may not be to Greenport.

"They go to a beach house for the weekend," Girls executive producer Ilene Landress said. "We do a little traveling in the first episode and the second episode. A little bit of a road trip."

Jonni Konner, another writer-executive producer, also hinted at what's to come.

"This year, there is a ... focus on financial stability. I can't say much more. It's an age thing. There's only so long you can say you just graduated college," Konner told The Wall Street Journal.

After the season 2 finale aired on March 17, season 3 immediately began filming on March 26.

Locations for the filming have been mostly around New York's Boroughs including Long Island City (Silvercup Studios), Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan, according to On Location Vacations. They've also been spotted at Grand Street Park in Chinatown, Gramercy Park and at the Warwick Center, where they were rumored to have filmed a few rehab scenes.

Although Christopher Abbott, who played Charlie, will not be returning, Andrew Rannells confirmed in February that he will be returning to the show as Elijah.

Girls was last spotted filming on Wednesday filming at E 23rd and 3rd Ave in NYC. Season 3 will premiere January 2014 on HBO.
