And here we thought it was ridiculous when Fox News cried "Cancel Culture" at every little thing.

In a bizarre speech today, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that the West was trying to "cancel" Russia via "cultural boycott"

"They are now trying to cancel our country. I'm talking about the progressive discrimination of everything to do with Russia."

What he seems to be referring to is the now-widespread tendency for those who sympathize with the plight of Ukraine at the moment are more or less avoiding all things Russian - for example, the Russian Tea Room, usually a popular tourist destination and upscale dining spot in New York City, saw a rare state of near-emptiness in the days following the initial attacks.

This really does nothing to help or hinder the war efforts on either side - it's just that people are reasonably uncomfortable to be seen supporting Russia right now.

Of course, what Putin is actually upset about are the many sanctions being put on the country right now, by the US and other countries who stand in solidarity with Ukraine.

Regardless - the weirdest part of this speech wasn't when Putin whined that he was being cancelled for committing war crimes on main. It was when he compared the country's plight to Harry Potter author JK Rowling, saying that like them, she was being cancelled "just because she didn't satisfy the demands of gender rights."

Even JK Rowling gets things right sometimes, though, as evidenced by her tweet disavowing the support - good to know she hasn't totally lost the plot when it comes to doing what's right for a disadvantaged people.

We should write a conclusion here to wrap this story into a neat little bow, but what on earth could we say about this entirely unexpected random event? Sometimes, things are just............weird.
