The producer of this year's Oscar ceremony, Will Packer was pretty lighthearted after the incident where Will Smith walked on stage and slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith's shaved head. In a since-deleted tweet, Packer wrote this about the altercation,

"Welp...I said it wouldn't be boring #Oscars."

However, taking the whole ordeal in stride didn't really go over well with certain people on Twitter who posted their opinion on Packer's comment. One person wrote,

"Making jokes about an assault that happened during your show isn't the congratulatory message you think it is."

Packer was quick to defend himself in a well-worded clapback:

"Black people have a defiant spirit of laughter when it comes to dealing with pain because there has been so much of it. I don't feel the need to elucidate that for you. But I also don't mind being transparent and say that this was a very painful moment for me. On many levels."

The internet has been polarized by the slap, with people taking both sides of the argument. On the one hand, many feel Rock punched down by pointing out Jada's alopecia, an autoimmune disorder she has been quite vocal about in the past, but Rock has been known to do some celeb roasting when asked to host before. Others felt Smith's reaction was hot-headed and out of character for the normally charming actor.

Either way, the incident has been a blight on an otherwise tame event. Who's to say who is right and wrong in this situation and how it should have been handled by both parties? It's easy to choose sides, speculate, and give our opinions, but at the end of the day, apologies have been issued, and it's up to Will Smith, Jada Pinkett, and Chirs Rock to have the final say in this matter.

Hopefully, they all find a way to move past it and learn from this ordeal.
