Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are heartbroken as they're mourning the death of their newborn son.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the 37-year-old world soccer champion shared a lengthy statement, telling his millions of followers that one of his newborn twins had passed away.

"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel," Ronaldo wrote.

Despite the pain they're going through, there's a ray of hope for the couple as the other twin is alive; the athlete says, "our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness." (via People Magazine)

Concluding his post, Ronaldo expressed his gratitude to the doctors and nurses who helped them throughout their journey and asked fans for privacy at this challenging time.

The post was signed by him and Rodriguez.

Ronaldo is a father to four children: 11-year-old Cristiano Jr., 4-year-old Alana Martina, and 4-year-old twins Eva Maria and Mateo.

The soccer player first announced his girlfriend's pregnancy in October 2021, saying they were expecting twins.

The athlete took online to share a photo of himself in bed along with his girlfriend while holding up ultrasound photos.

He also shared a photo hanging out with his four children in a hot tub.

 

The month prior, the athlete shared snaps of his family enjoying the sunny weather in Manchester. His current team, Manchester United, announced last year that the group had reached a deal with Juventus that sees Ronaldo's return to the team.

He was a part of the team for six years (2003 to 2009), and he won three league titles and one Champion League.

Shortly after Ronaldo shared the devastating news online, many of his friends from the world of football took to social media to send their deepest condolences.

His team, Manchester United, quote-retweeted his statement, writing, "Your pain is our pain, @Cristiano. Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time."

Teammate Marcus Rashford also paid tribute, saying his thoughts are with Ronaldo and Georgina.
