The first teaser trailer for the latest installment in the Predator franchise has dropped, and this time around, they are going old school.

The film, which is simply titled Prey, is going in a refreshingly different direction than the Predator flicks audiences have become accustomed to. Past plots have had the intergalactic hunters dealing with present-day and the future timelines - but not anymore.

Produced by Hulu, Prey takes place 300 years in the past, and revolves around a young Comanche Nation woman named Naru (Amber Midthunder from the series Rosewell, New Mexico) who has to take on a Predator armed with advanced weaponry. With only her wits and handmade weapons at her disposal, Naru will have to stop the alien threat before it attacks her village.

What a brilliant take on an old favorite! For too long, studios have been cranking out more of the same when it comes to this franchise, watering down the character with nonsensical, rehashed stories that never held a candle to the Arnold Schwarzenegger original from 1987. The idea of someone having to use what is at their disposal was what worked so well with the first film. Rudimentary weaponry, boobie traps, and survival skills are far more dramatic subjects than anything they have done since, and the fact that it brings in indigenous representation is a MAJOR added bonus.

The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who made a splash with his movie 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Produced by 20th Century Fox, Prey is being distributed as a Hulu Original, and will drop on the streaming service on August 5, 2022.
