The Pokemon fandom came out in numbers today after a trailer for upcoming main series games Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was released earlier in the morning. Along with this trailer came detailed reveals of sevearal new Pokemon and characters - but none, it would seem, as instantly loved and revered as Lechonk.

Every new iteration of Pokemon we get, it seems, the fandom will latch onto one or two absolutely adorable little friends and go nuts over them. Many who were on Twitter in the summer of 2016 will no doubt remember the hype that built around Rowlett, the adorable egg-shaped owl Pokemon - the love for Lechonk is much the same. People are also really really loving the fact that his name is Lechonk - like a French person is trying to call him "the chunk" (which he is.)

There were other things to obsess over in the new trailer as well, not the least of which was the new Pokemon professors - who have bisexual twitter in quite the tizzy.

(Seriously, when did they decide that every new Pokemon professor needs to be heartbreakingly hot? How did we get from Oak, Birch, and Rowan to here?)

On a more serious note, the things Pokemon fans are actually most excited about for Scarlet and Violet are the open world concept and the new multiplayer features, both of which are new dynamics to the 26-year-old RPG franchise. These are features fans have been asking for for a long time, and it seems GameFreak was simply waiting on the technology to catch up so they could give it to them.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be available on the Nintendo Switch November 18. Until then, we'll all just have to be content to watch the trailer:
