Tom Hanks, a national treasure, shifted from actor to guardian when a gang of crazy admirers approached his wife, Rita Wilson, and almost made her lose her balance. Depending on how a fan would view the footage, some would certainly criticize the actor from pulling a Will Smith moment - engaging in almost rude behavior in the bid to protect his wife. 

In a supposedly nice Wednesday night in New York City, the Oscar-winning actor became upset when an enthusiastic group nearly knocked over Wilson, who lost her balance and stumbled away. 

"Stop it!" Wilson, 65, shouted. 

"My wife? Back the f-k off! Knocking over my wife?!" Hanks, also 65, before the pair hurriedly into an awaiting vehicle. 

Then, a fan could be heard saying, "I'm sorry about that, Tom." 

A few weeks ago, the "Forrest Gump" actor embarked on a press trip to promote his new Baz Luhrmann-directed picture "Elvis."

Along with the principal actor, he attended a screening in Brisbane, Australia, earlier this month. 

Wilson and Hanks are 34 years into their marriage. They first met in 1981 on the production of the 1980-1982 sitcom "Bosom Buddies."

Hanks was still married to his college sweetheart Samantha Lewes, with whom he had two children, actor son Colin Hanks, 44, and actress daughter Elizabeth Hanks, 40. 

Tom and Wilson gave birth to two sons: actor and rapper Chet Hanks, age 31, and Truman Hanks, age 26. 

Chet has fought his own issues throughout the years, but he recently celebrated nine months of sobriety. Despite his father's impeccable reputation, Chet stated in February that he lacked a "strong masculine role model" as a child. 

"'You have all these things that they want, so they are trying to f-king throw their shade at you so you can feel s-tty about yourself because they are jealous.' I needed to hear that," Chet explained.

"I didn't have anyone to tell me that. This is me now telling the younger version of myself what I needed to hear then."

Just this week, it was reported that Tom Hanks is unwell but hiding it. Some eagle-eyed fans noticed that he was hiding his shaking hand while performing, raising concerns that the actor is now with a serious illness but would rather not tell.
