Actor Marlon Wayans weighed in on cancel culture surrounding comedy films.

Marlon Wayans rose to prominence for his role in the comedy film "White Chicks" alongside his brother, Shawn Wayans. 

"White Chicks" received negative critical reception for its controversial humor, however, it performed well at the box office and eventually went on to be regarded as a cult classic comedy film.

Is 'White Chicks' Being Cancelled?

In a recent interview with Buzzfeed, the 50-year-old actor was asked about one of his classic comedic lead roles, "White Chicks", and if it would thrive in this age of censorship and political correctness. 

Wayans went on to emphasize the importance of comedy films amidst the prevalent cancel culture.

"I think they're needed. I don't know what planet we're on, where you think people don't need laughter, and that people need to be censored and canceled. If a joke is gonna get me canceled, thank you for doing me that favor," Wayans told Buzzfeed. "It's sad that society is in this place where we can't laugh anymore. I ain't listening to this damn generation."

Marlon Wayans Stands by His Type of Comedy

Over the years, the classic comedy that was released in 2004 has been the subject of debate on whether or not it has problematic themes. Despite the issues that netizens call out over the film, Wayans stands by his type of humor and expressed that he knows the type of audience who will appreciate his comedy.

"I ain't listening to these folks: These scared-a- people, these scared executives," Wayans expressed top Buzzfeed. "Y'all do what you want to do? Great. I'm still gonna tell my jokes the way I tell them. And if you want to make some money, jump on board. And if not, then I'll find a way to do it myself. I know my audience. My audience comes to my shows every weekend and they leave feeling great and laughing. One thing about the Wayans, we've always told the worst joke the best way."
