Jo Koy admitted he had an "off night" hosting the 2024 Golden Globes Sunday following the backlash his jokes received.

During a "Good Morning America" interview Monday, the comedian acknowledged the challenges of hosting the prestigious event, describing it as a "tough gig."

Reflecting on the experience, Jo Koy stated, "I wanted to give a little bit more of me, and I fell a little short. That's all."

He elaborated on the difficulties he faced hosting the annual awards ceremony and the backlash he received, saying, "It's a tough room. It was a hard job, I'm not going to lie...I'd be lying if [I said] it doesn't hurt."

Addressing a specific moment that garnered attention and criticism, Jo Koy discussed his joke about the NFL showing more of Taylor Swift than the Golden Globes.

He admitted that the joke was "a little flat" and clarified it was directed at the NFL's use of cutaways, not Swift herself.

"It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more on the NFL," Jo Koy explained.

During his opening monologue Sunday night, Jo Koy joked, "The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear."

The camera then panned to Swift, who appeared unamused and took a sip from her drink.

The social media reaction was swift, with fans and viewers expressing their displeasure over the quip.

One Swift fan commented on Jo Koy's Instagram, writing, "Congrats you pissed off the most intense fandom. Enjoy your snakes."

Piers Morgan shared a clip of the moment on X, formerly Twitter, writing: "If Taylor Swift death stares could actually kill, Jo Koy would now be deceased.'

At one point during the awards ceremony, Jo Koy defended himself, pointing out the challenges of preparing for the event in less than two weeks.

"I got the gig 10 days ago! You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. You're kidding me, right?" he told the audience.

"Slow down, I wrote some of these and they are the ones you are laughing at," he added of the jokes.

Despite the backlash, Jo Koy told "GMA" that he "had fun" hosting the 2024 Golden Globes.

"You know, it was a moment that I'll always remember," he said.
