Meghan Markle's absence at the Golden Globes sparked debate among netizens, with some claiming she wasn't invited amid the claim she skipped the event due to security concerns.

An unnamed source told Page Six Markle was invited to join her "Suits" co-stars in presenting the Best TV Drama at the Golden Globes. Elle noted that the Duchess of Sussex's absence was understandable since her attendance would likely require heightened security, and she wasn't nominated for an award.

Several netizens reacted, with many not believing that Markle was invited but skipped the event due to security concerns. Some pointed out that Swift, who was more popular, was there.

"What security does she need?? [multiple face with tears of joy emojis] Taylor Swift was there, she didn't [need] that security, and Megsy, who is unknown without Hazbeen, needs security? [face with rolling eyes emojis]," one commented.

"Elle magzine [sic] said it would involve too much extra security if Meghan attended. I guess Taylor Swift doesn't need a lot of security as she was there," another added with a face savoring food and a face with tears of joy emojis.

"Her PR cited the need for advanced security ..... un [sic] a room with Taylor Swift who actually has TROs out on stalkers," a third person said.

Many were not convinced about the claim that Markle had security concerns at the Golden Globes and outright alleged she wasn't invited to the event.

"Harry and Meghan were not invited to last night's Golden Globe awards. They can get away from that by insisting they were busy. But it is much harder to escape the effect of the heavy mocking, especially of Meghan," Prince Harry's biographer Angela Levin tweeted.

"She wasn't invited...another lie they use to try and negate they weren't asked to be there. I thought they were gonna change their way at the first of the year...guess they forgot already," a different user wrote.

"She wasn't invited -- there was plenty of security there. No A lister's had issues," another netizen added.

Meanwhile, a few believed that the security concerns were reasonable. One fan even praised Markle's influence for making buzz online without attending the big event. Some asked the rest to just leave the Sussexes alone.

"Maybe it has more to do with the type of threat/risk assessment given H&M, and the fact that they knew what a lame [s--t emoji] show it would be," one wrote.

"MM is powerful enough to be mentioned [sic] for an event she was not even intend[ed] to attend. This is power," a supporter added.

"What is wrong with you?? Why not just leave them alone? Oh right, if you did that you'd have nothing to gossip about on GB News. Sad sad woman," one commented on Levin's post.

Meanwhile, Markle's "Suits" co-star Gina Torres was asked if they texted the "Horrible Bosses" actress about the cast reunion at the Golden Globes, and she said they didn't have Markle's number.

"We don't have her number. We just don't. So, she'll see, she'll watch. She should be happy that we're here," she said.
