Here are some interesting details we know about Ohtani's wife and marriage.

1. Ohtani's wife is a "normal Japanese woman."

Based on his announcement on Instagram, his wife is someone from his native country of Japan and is very special to him.

Echoing this, Jack Harris of the LA Times said that Ohtani told reporters that his wife "is a 'normal Japanese woman' (aka, not a fellow celebrity)."

2. They met in Japan about three or four years ago.

"We first met about three or four years ago,and we have fun together," Ohtani told reporters at the Dodgers' spring training base in Glendale, Arizona, per The Japan Times.

He added, "I was able to imagine us being together forever."

3. Ohtani's wife is supportive of the MLB star's profession.

Ohtani also revealed how his wife supports him and respects his opinion. He said she did not affect his decision to stay in Southern California and sign with the Dodgers.

"She respects my opinion, and that is something separate from baseball. My wife felt that she would come with me wherever I went, so that had nothing to do with it. Where I wanted to play baseball was the main thing," he said.

4. Ohtani and his wife live together with their dog.

Per AP News, the dog pictured on the Dodgers designated hitter's post was his dog Dekopin, who he also calls Decoy.

"We hope the two of us -- and one animal -- will work together," Ohtani wrote, per AP News' English translation of his post.

Meanwhile, when asked about children, the elite two-way player said it is something he hopes will happen.

5. The couple got engaged last year.

After meeting in Japan a few years ago, Ohtani revealed that he and his partner got engaged last year.

However, he didn't disclose when they actually got married.
