From December 2023 to January 2024, according to court documents acquired by the 'Daily Mail,' the Smalls reportedly beat their daughter unconscious with a broom and threatened to "earth slam" her down a flight of stairs. The documents also accuse the pair of striking their 16-year-old with a belt, punching her in the mouth, and beating her to the point she miscarried her baby.

"I don't care where I push you at... I'm going to earth-slam her down the steps! Come past this line and I'm gonna grab you by the head and throw you on the ground," Marty reportedly said on the recording. "Nothing is going to happen to me."

The Smalls held a press conference later, where they allegedly demanded the teenager to publicly deny all claims of abuse. The couple was charged shortly after.

Via Facetime, the teenager's boyfriend secretly recorded the daughter's abuse via a FaceTime call during an alleged heated argument.

The Smalls were criminally charged after their daughter told an Atlantic City High School staff member about her parent's abuse during the school's mental health workshop.

Marty and his wife, who is the city's superintendent of schools, are currently facing criminal charges for child endangerment. CBS reports the mayor is charged with terroristic threats, aggravated assault, and disorderly persons simple assault.

Despite the allegations, Marty reportedly refuses to resign from his position.

The couple has not been arrested and no bail has been set. Jacobs said his clients are "completely innocent of any wrongdoing and will ultimately be vindicated."
