Former TODAY host Ann Curry returned to the NBC morning news show on Tuesday.

She reported from Syria, a day after Secretary of State John Kerry announced that Syria’s use of chemical weapons on its own people was "undeniable."

As the U.S. evaluates intervention options, Curry visited one of the nation’s several refugee camps which are meant to house the nearly 2 million people who have been displaced amid the violence in the country.

In a clinic inside Jordan’s Za’atri refugee camp, a little boy who escaped war-torn Syria described what life was like during peaceful times, and how the war changed everything and brought horrifying violence.

Curry has been reporting on hard news stories around the globe ever since her departure from the show last June. Curry was replaced by Savannah Guthrie.

The much-discussed departure of co-anchor had tongues wagging. Matt Lauer spoke to the Daily Beast about the exit.

"It was a hard time for everybody," said Lauer of the negative attention on the show. "We were getting kicked around a lot. Some of it was self-inflicted and perhaps deserved."

"I don't think the show and the network handled the transition well. You don't have to be Einstein to know that," Lauer said.. "It clearly did not help us. We were seen as a family, and we didn't handle a family matter well."
