When The Mentalist returns of season 6, Patrick Jane is closer than ever to tracking down his nemesis, Red John.

Coming hard on the heals of last spring's "Red John's Rules," Jane (Simon Baker) and Agent Lisbon (Robin Tunney) are now in possession of Lorelei Martins' Red John suspect list.

With seven names to go through - Bret Stiles, Gale Bertram, Ray Haffner, Reede Smith, Bob Kirkland, Sheriff Thomas McAllister and Brett Partridge - the pair are now faced with the task of whittling down the names before the New Year, the slated end to the Red John saga.

In the season premiere, titled "The Desert Rose," Jane and Lisbon will be investigating a murder following the discovery of a two-year-old corpse. However, not all will be well between the duo.

How Will Patrick Jane and Agent Lisbon's Relationship Develop?

"Jane and Lisbon are hot on the trail of Red John in the season premiere, but a disagreement on how to handle the situation may leave one of them in danger before the episode is over," said series creator Bruno Heller, according to TV Guide.

Lauren Stamile (Burn Notice) will play the victim's wife while Josie Davis (Hollywood Heights) has been cast as a truck stop waitress  named Sonya. A Red John suspect may also be shown.

"By the end of the premiere episode, there may be one less suspect," Heller teased, according to TV Line.
