Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth called off their engagement, reps for each confirmed to ABC News.

People magazine first broke the news Tuesday and reps from both parties confirmed the reports.

The couple - who first met on the movie set of 2010's The Last Song - got engaged in May 2012. At the time, the singer told the magazine, "I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam." He proposed with a  3.5-carat Neil Lane ring

Cyrus unfollowed Hemsworth on Twitter earlier in September, Enstars reported. The couple was last seen publicly together on Aug. 8 at the Los Angeles premiere of his movie Paranoia. Hemsworth did not attend the 2013 Video Music Awards, where Cyrus gave a raunchy performance by grinding on Robin Thicke and twerking on stage, and the couple remained apart for some time as he traveled to support his brother Chris Hemsworth's new film, Rush.

Both stars have not made mention of their called off engagement on social media. Cyrus, who is very active on Twitter, has stuck to talking about her music. At time of publication, her last tweet was on Sept. 15 and read "Lets get to 150 million #vevo #wreckingball #directorscut," talking about her music video for Wrecking Ball.

The stars have been focusing more and more on their professional careers as of late. Cyrus is promoting her upcoming album Bangerz while Hemsworth prepares to promote The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

His brother, Chris Hemsworth, was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show recently and talked about the media frenzy  surrounding Liam and Cyrus.
