Paula Patton addressed the grinding Miley Cyrus did to her husband Robin Thicke during her appearance on the talk show Watch What Happens Live Tuesday night.

Cyrus gyrated against Thicke during their joint performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25 as they performed his hit song Blurred Lines. The 20-year-old showed off her twerking skills on stage while wearing a nude colored pair of shorts and bra top.

Despite the backlash Cyrus received for the raunchy stage set - some regarding her grinding on a married man - Patton had no problem with the performance and in fact, she knew it was coming.

"I wasn't surprised at all," Patton said. "Honestly, they rehearsed for three days beforehand and I don't know how not to dance with someone having their booty in your ... all my friends do it like that! And, I don't really know what the big deal is."

She went on to say that she was surprised by the negative reaction the performance received.

"I didn't know if they thought Miley was going to sit down and play piano like Alicia Keys. Her song's about taking Molly [ecstasy]!" she said. "I don't understand. I didn't get the big deal."

Thicke defended the VMA performance for its show-stopping quality, which is what the performers were after. He told Star magazine, "We knew what we were getting ourselves into."

"We're entertainers, and the VMAs [are] the perfect place for a little shock and awe. We kind of knew when we were in rehearsal and we were like, 'Okay, if you touch me with your foam finger all over my crotch, obviously a few people are going to have something to say about this'. But that was the whole point!"

Cyrus stood up for their controversial collaboration in an MTV special taped three days after the awards show took place.

"Me and Robin, the whole time said, 'You know we're about to make history right now,'" she recalled. Addressing her critics directly, she added, "They're over thinking it. You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it 'cause that's just me."
