The Voice coaches opened season 5 of the show with a performance of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' I Love Rock 'n Roll.

Christina Aguilera belted the song's opening lyrics "I saw him dancing there by the record machine." Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and CeeLo Green also lent their impeccable vocals to the 1975 hit. The performance's memorable moment came when Shelton and Levine collaborated on an instrumental solo. The duo faced each other as they rocked out on their electric guitars.

Blake Shelton "Frustrated" With Adam Levine?

Monday's season premiere saw the return of Aguilera and Green after they took a hiatus from the show. Aguilera previously praised Shakira, who filled in for her on the show during season 4, as well as Green's substitute, Usher.

"Thank god for Shakira, she did a beautiful job, she has sweet, lovely energy. And Usher came and stepped up with a lot of creative stuff," she said in July at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour in California.

During the event, Aguilera also explained what prompted her hiatus from the show.

"I'm a mom, when the cameras go off, I put on sweats and a t-shirt," she said, referring to her 5-year-old son, Max. "I needed some time to do that. He starts kindergarten this fall, so I'm excited about that."

The star said she was excited for her return and called the show's other mentors her "family."

"The four of us, it's so much fun to have a laugh with these guys, we just have a good time," she added.

The positive energy between the coaches has helped the show garner a massive fan base. The Voice also received the 2013 Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Series, beating out nine-time winner The Amazing Race.
