Now that Charlie Hunnam has bowed out of the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey movie, fans want to know who will replace the Sons of Anarchy actor as the sexually adventurous Christian Grey.

The name at the top of the list for many is none other than Canadian heartthrob Ryan Gosling.

Hunnam, 33, was cast in the role last month opposite 21 Jump Street's Dakota Johnson. The casting was received with criticism from fans, who were actively campaigning for White Collar's Matt Bomer as Christian and Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel as Anastasia Steele.

Hunnam dropped out of the role this weekend however due to his busy TV schedule, Enstars previously reported.

"The filmmakers of Fifty Shades Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey," a joint statement from Universal Pictures and Focus Features said.

Gosling was initially considered for the role of the 27-year-old S&M crazed billionaire but passed on the opportunity, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He has now soared to the top of the list of those talked about to replace Hunnam.

The 32-year-old former Mousketeer in The New Mickey Mouse Club shot to fame as Noah in the 2004 Nicholas Sparks film adaptation of The Notebook. He has since gone on to star in smaller, independent films to much acclaim, such as Lars and The Real Girl, Blue Valentine, and The Place Beyond the Pines. Interest in the actor peaked again in 2011 after his starring role as a well-dressed lothario in Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Fifty Shades of Grey is expected to hit theaters Aug. 1, 2014.
