Donnie Wahlberg took a trip to Chicago and surprised his girlfriend Jenny McCarthy Nov. 1 on her 41st birthday.

McCarthy said she had no idea Wahlberg, who's shooting the CBS drama Blue Bloods in New York, was going to show up in Chicago this past weekend. She told her View co-hosts the details during Monday's show.

"He has proved that he is the best boyfriend in the world," she said on air. "He flew to Chicago on Friday, surprised me with a brunch with all my friends and family. Then we went to a movie theater with the Chicago Children's Choir singing Happy Birthday. Then he played the movie Grease...It was so wonderful and romantic and I am just so grateful."

The two made their first red carpet appearance as a couple on Saturday, Aug. 24, at a Dancing with the Stars charity event.

"He makes me feel really comfortable and puts me at ease and he brings out the best in me," McCarthy told People magazine in an article published on Sept. 13,

The couple's also gotten the seal of approval from family members. 

McCarthy revealed to the publication that her 11-year-old son, Evan, likes Wahlberg. 

"They had their first meeting and it was incredible, it was perfect. Evan loves to catch frogs, so my backyard has a big creek and they caught a few frogs and had some great, perfect amount of time together to get to know each other."

Wahlberg's sister, Tracy, also said she approves of McCarthy and "would love it" if the two tied the knot. 

"We have met and she's a doll. She's definitely welcome," Tracy said during the couple's appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live Tuesday, Oct. 29.
