A British couple's reaction to having valuables stolen from their home was not is making headlines for unexpected reasons.

Kate Barrett and Dan Owens, a couple from Northampton, U.K., left a note for burglars who stole cash, cameras, an iPod and gold watches from their home in case they came back, according to the New York Daily News.

The note, which included an apology to the thieves, has since gone viral for its cheeky response.

"We're sorry we didn't have more for you to take...As you now know, we don't have particularly expensive tastes, so there's no need to come in again, unless you'd like to take my collection of VHS videos and cassettes-Dan is very disappointed you didn't take these the first time round," Barrett wrote in the note.

The couple said they'd rather put as positive spin on their ordeal, which also left them with a smashed patio door.

"So many people justs it around and mope after being burgled-I thought it would be a good idea to leave them a note in case they come back or see it online," Barrett said.

This isn't the first time a burglary story had a positive note attached to it. According to Bossip.com, some burglars in August returned computers to a sexual assault services charity in San Bernardino, Calif. with a note attached, apologizing for taking the items.

"We had no idea what we were taking. Here's your stuff back, we hope that you guys can continue to make a difference in people's lives. God Bless," that note, which was taped to the returned computers, read.
