On Wednesday night's episode of Survivor: Blood vs. Water, Ciera Eastin made a shocking move by voting out her own mother, Laura Morett.

Ciera informed Laura that it was looking like she would be the one voted out next. Though both Ciera and Laura did some last minute scrambling to keep Laura in the game, it did not prove to be enough.

Laura was voted out unanimously, including a surprising vote from Ciera, who wrote "Mom" in parentheses under her vote. The mother-daughter pair seemed to agree that it was the right thing to do for both of their games, especially Ciera's.

Host Jeff Probst spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Ciera's shocking move, suggesting that he underestimated her before this episode.

"I think Ciera is showing herself to be much more shrewd than I first thought," Probst admitted. "Or she's learning as she goes. Or maybe both. I think Ciera's gut is right. Laura is a major threat. She just seems unbeatable and the only way she lasts to the end is to win, win, win. So Ciera is looking long term. If we want a shot at the money, you have to fall on the sword. To wait only increases the odds that Ciera gets voted out. If Ciera can show her alliance she's with them, she might buy herself another Tribal."

The surprising move was met with divisive opinions on the official Survivor Facebook and Twitter accounts. While some praised Ciera's move as impressive, others did not think she did the right thing, morally or for her game. Many said that they could never even think about voting out their own mother from a game like Survivor.
