The next episode of Person of Interest season 3 will feature a flashback to Finch's (Michael Emerson) childhood.

CBS published a press release this week with a synopsis of season 3, episode 11, titled Lethe. The episode will feature a flashback to Finch's adolescence, specifically the time period in which Finch came up with the idea for The Machine.

Meanwhile, Reese (Jim Caviezel) leaves the POI team behind after the events of the war with the crime organization. At headquarters, the remainder of the POI team receives the number of a dying man.

The episode guest stars Camryn Manheim (The Practice) as Diane, the devoted wife of a brilliant man named Arthur (Saul Rubinek) who is gradually losing his mind. The POI team is forced to rely on Diane in order to get through to Arthur, in the hope that it will save both of their lives.

The Diane-Arthur arc will unfold over multiple episodes, carrying into early 2014. Their first episode, Lethe, airs Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 10 p.m. on CBS.

Person of Interest Spoilers: Does Finch's Fiancee Grace Return in Upcoming Episodes?

Person of Interest is facing a transitional period in the show's history as the characters adjust to death of Detective Carter (Taraji P. Henson). The death ranked up as one of the most shocking in TV history, especially considering the producers used misdirection to make it seem like Fusco (Kevin Chapman) would be the one dying.

Person of Interest season 3 airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on CBS.
