On the upcoming fourth season of Game of Thrones, the mysterious witch Melisandre (Carice Van Houton) will continue to bewitch Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane).

Game of Thrones season 4 will be adapting the second half of A Storm of Swords, the third novel in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series. Melisandre is still an important character in the second half of the book, preaching about the Lord of Light and predicting future events with surprising accuracy.

MAJOR BOOK SPOILERS AHEAD:

As seen in season 3, Melisandre threw leeches representing Robb Stark (Richard Madden), Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) and Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide) into a fire. Though Robb already died in season 3, her premonition about power in the king's blood will prove true as both Joffrey and Balon will die. This further proves to Stannis that she is someone to be kept around.

Game of Thrones Spoilers: Bronn Betrays Tyrion & Breaks Their Friendship?

Stannis and Melisandre travel to the Wall in order to decimate Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds) and his wildings. Melisandre proves herself on the battlefield and the pair make a new home at Castle Black. Melisandre forms a peculiar friendship with Jon Snow (Kit Harington). She notices something with Jon in the same fashion as her obsession with Stannis.

Jon comes to trust Melisandre despite his initial reservations. This is the end of Melisandre's story in book 3, though she is sure to cause more drama in the books and seasons ahead.
