Robin Roberts revealed she was gay on Sunday when she thanked longtime girlfriend Amber Laign for her support during a year-long recovery from a cancer battle.

For the first time, the 53-year-old Good Morning America anchor told fans that she's been in a same-sex relationship with a woman, and reports have indicated Laign has been around for more than 10 years of Robert's life.

Laign is a massage therapist who helps patients recuperate from injuries and works in a private practice located in New York. Prior to becoming a massage therapist, a Linkedin profile for Laign reveals that she worked in the fashion industry as a sales representative at Berger and Stevens, a New York City fashion showroom.

The couple met through mutual friends and share an apartment in the Big Apple, though Laign is orginally from the Bay Area, The Daily Mail noted. See photos here:

Roberts' sexuality has not been a secret to her family, close friends and co-workers, though fans have been kept in the dark for some time.

On Sunday, ABC News issued a statement following Roberts' big announcement on Facebook, saying, "We love Robin and Amber, who we have all known for a long time. We were so touched by Robin's Facebook message today and so thankful for all the loving support she has in her life."

In the post, Roberts also thanked her sister Sally-Ann for being her donor and giving her "the gift of life."

In 2012, Roberts was diagnosed with the blood disorder myelodysplastic syndrome and took a leave of absence from Good Morning America. She returned to the morning show in February 2013.
