Thor star Chris Hemsworth will announce the Academy Award nominations on Thursday, Jan. 16.

Hemsworth will announce the nominations live at 5:38 a.m. PT/8:38 a.m. ET, alongside Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. A live news conference is set to take place at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hemsworth takes the job from Emma Stone, who had the honor of announcing the nominees for the 85th Annual Academy Awards last year.

Prior to the ceremony, there has been speculation as to what films are most likely to receive nominations this year. The films predicted to receive the most nominations include Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, and American Hustle. Other talked about films include Nebraska and Captain Phillips.

Early Oscar buzz has also surrounded the acting and directing races. Some likely contenders for the Best Actor race include Matthew McConaughey for Dallas Buyer's Club, Leonardo DiCaprio for The Wolf of Wall Street and Joaquin Phoenix for Her.

Some likely Best Actress nominees include Judi Dench for Philomena, Meryl Streep for August: Osage County, and Sandra Bullock for Gravity. Potential nominees for the Best Director race include David O. Russell for American Hustle, Alexander Payne for Nebraska, and Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity.

The 86th Annual Academy Awards will air live Sunday, Mar. 2 on ABC. Ellen DeGeneres is scheduled to host this year's ceremony.
