While a majority of the focus of BBC's Sherlock chatter has been on the likes of Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his pal Watson (Martin Freeman), one character that has risen in popularity is Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey).

On Jan. 19, Brealey took the opportunity to speak to Entertainment Weekly about her character, which actually wasn't meant to be much more than a minor role.

"She was just meant as a mildly comic turn, coming along and being lovestruck. Because [Sherlock co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss] were quite keen not to invent anybody new. They're both huge Conan Doyle fan boys and they just didn't want a regular who wasn't from canon. And then they felt that she might have more mileage in her. Molly's wheedled her way in there! In her white coat!"

When queried about the third series, Brealey said that although SHerlock's hiatus hasn't exactly been short, it's worth the wait nonetheless.

"I think it's worth the wait, which is the main thing. It's grown in ways that might be surprising. It has everything that we had but everything's sort of moved. Certainly my character is on a completely new journey," she added.
